The project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the GEF Implementing Agency. The Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is the Executing Agency, while the Cuvelai Commission (CUVECOM) and Kunene Permanent Joint Technical Committee (PJTC) are the focal custodians of the project implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"http:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-652\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3-16x12.jpg 16w, https:\/\/cuvkun.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/TDA_Photo3.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Huambo \u2014 TDA Consultation, in CETACOffice<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Below are some of the key Issues that were identified:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Increasing climate variability, with recurring droughts and floods disproportionately impacting the lower Kunene River and the Cuvelai Basin.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Water quality deterioration in the middle and upper Cunene, linked to inadequate sanitation, agricultural runoff, and mining activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Land and ecosystem degradation, including deforestation, sand mining, soil erosion, sedimentation, and spread of invasive species.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Degradation of critical headwater areas, threatening the sustainability of river flows across the region.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Governance and infrastructure gaps compounded by weak inter-institutional coordination, population growth, and climate change.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The activity enabled the identification and prioritization of the main transboundary environmental challenges affecting the Kunene and Cuvelai Basins, contributing to the advancement of data collection, integration, and preparation of the Causal Chain Analysis (CCA). Coordinated and sustainable responses are no longer optional \u2014 they are urgent,\u201d said Ms. Ana Sanchez, Representative, Cunene Provincial Office for Infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants validated the basin system boundaries and agreed to advance to the next phase of the TDA methodology, encompassing regional and socioeconomic analyses and preparation of the Causal Chain Analysis (CCA).
