CUVKUN Completes Output Verification Mission with UNDP

A team of CUVKUN Project technical staff and UNDP team responsible for monitoring and evaluating project activities, went on a week long output verification mission to selected sites within the Cuvelai and Kunene basins from the  09-15 November 2025.
The mission captured the progress made in the implementation of the project outputs, document project success, lessons learnt, and challenges encountered thus far. The scope of project activities which were monitored on the Namibian side of the Cuvelai Basin included:

  • The construction of rainwater harvesting earth ponds
  • The rehabilitation of an existing deep well to improve safety, reliability, and year-round water access
  • The upgrading of existing hydrometric stations to restore their functionality and enhance flood early warning capabilities.

On the Angolan side of the Kunene Basin the team looked at:

  • The rehabilitation of an existing borehole, complemented by solar-powered desalination and brine management systems
  • The rehabilitation and upgrading of existing hydrometric stations to restore their functionality and enhance flood early warning capabilities
  • Gabion weir construction, mobile solar pumping for irrigation, and the introduction of drip irrigation
  • The repair of canal flood regulation gates with institutional strengthening among irrigation associations to improve water governance, reduce conflict and enhance market linkages.

A comprehensive report will be developed and integrated with the Quarterly Reports and the Project Implementation Report (PIR).
