Economic Valuation of the Ecosystem Goods and Services in the Angolan Highlands Ecosystem

The CUVKUN Project Technical Officers recently joined alongside a consultant tasked to carry out an Economic Valuation of the ecosystem goods and services provided by the Angolan Highlands ecosystem from 27 November – 04 December 2025.  The field mission engaged with communities living in the five villages of Mabambi (Calucuve), Dongo, Quipungo, Sul-Caconda and Lomue-Cuima of Southern Angola. Through facilitated Focused Group Discussions, the team engaged with local communities to carry out an assessment aimed at quantifying the economic benefits derived from these ecosystems, identify key threats and pressures, and provide policy recommendations to support sustainable management and conservation efforts.
The mission collected primary data on ecosystem services and water resource and captured the current use of natural resources, for agriculture, livestock, forestry (including logging) and mining and the impacts of these activities. The interactions also identified key challenges, opportunities, and community perspectives and will inform the final valuation of the report and recommendations.
